Archiving and Backup
There is a common misconception that archiving and backup are mutually exclusive. Archiving and Database Backups are very similar but not necessarily the same thing.
Archiving is usually performed by saving media on a disk, tape drive or removable storage device kept in a safe or a safe location on or off-site. Archiving ensures the information remains viewable for extended amounts of time for viewing or research purposes. The information can be kept in it's original database form or converted in a manner more easily accessible by the less technically savy that don't want to deal with using a database reader or translation software to convert from the original database language.
A database backup is very common in “on or offline” software. A backup is performed when you export a database to be saved as a file that can later be used to restore the software back to it's intended state depending on the information saved within the file. The most common way of performing a back up is to export a database to be saved on the client server during regularly set time intervals or “at will”. You then have the option to navigate to the specified file and import it to the database in which you intend to restore.
Our method of saving database backups is to give you the ability to view, delete or download the database backups directly from an admin panel without having to log into the server to do so. We also give you the choice of backing up the database “at will” or creating a schedule to do so. The database backups will save in the admin panel until you are ready to delete them and once you are, you have the ability to delete single entries, multiple selected entries or select a date range for deletion.
